Cougars win two on the trot
THE Cockburn Cougars produced two hard fought wins on the weekend to claim fourth spot on the SBL ladder and set themselves up for a blockbuster game against third place Kalgoorlie Giants at home this weekend.
Cougars men have been struggling for consistent form over the past few weeks, but have turned the corner with wins over Wanneroo Wolves and Stirling Senators. Captain Andrew Musulin led the scorers against Wolves with 22 points, supported by newest import Doug McLaughlin-Williams with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The win was backed up the following night against Senators, McLaughlin-Williams scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and Alex Prince returning to form from injury with 24 points.
Metropolis Lady Cougars built on their winning record with close wins against the Wolves.
Chelsea Evans showed she has a bright future with the Cougars running the point and chipping in with 14 points, closely supported by Ella Buckley and Emma Pass with 13 points each. Saturday saw a nail-biting one point win against Senators, Vanessa Michael scored 12 points and 10 rebounds and Ella Buckley 11 points and eight rebounds.
This Saturday will see the Cougar men at home against Giants in a very important game for the team to consolidate a top four position. Cougars were victorious over the Giants at their last encounter and the Giants will be sure to want to seek revenge.
