Ready to Shoot the 'J' Down Under

The Rockingham Flames are ready to explode up the SBL standings with their newest addition in 6"1 American Trey Clarkson who is about to turn up the heat.

Hailing from Tucson, Arizona the 23 year old comes to Rockingham after graduating in 2008 from the University of Western New Mexico, where he played Division 2 Basketball on a four year full scholarship. During this time he broke shooting records all over the West Coast of American college basketball ranks where he finished second in the NCAA division 2 competition in three point shooting percentage during his final (fourth) year in 2008.

As a Mustang, Trey was a four year starter where his first three years saw him run the team from the point guard position before sliding to the shooting guard spot for his final year where he blew away all opposition with his deadly long range shooting.

Playing a team high 33.4 mins per outing in his senior year Trey led his team in scoring with 14.2ppg but more impressive was his field goal percentage nailing a staggering 50.6% beyond the arc and 48.9% of his shots within two point range.

Following his college career Trey's coach Mark Coleman described his former charge as 'the entire package'. "Trey has lot of talent, a good work ethic, a good student, a great person and a leader. Everyday I got nothing less than 100%. In practice and in games, it never mattered how many points he scored, all that mattered was that we won on the scoreboard.

Most recently Trey has been touring as apart of the Athletes in Action squad visiting various locations across Europe and competing at invitational events in North Carolina waiting on the call to take his show abroad.

Speaking from his hometown in Arizona just prior to departing for Australia Trey said "I am very blessed to be given the chance to play for the Flames. I am thankful to coach Utley and the club for giving me this opportunity. This is the first pro team to have given me a chance, and I will give this club my all on and off the court. I look forward to using my abilities to help turn the season around."

In return Flames Coach Mark Utley is upbeat about the team making the necessary adjustments with his newest addition and believes Trey can provide the spark required for the Flames to be a threat at the business end of the season.

"In speaking with Trey I was confident from the outset that his willingness to improve and desire to make others around him better would have an immediate impact on the team and will put us in good sted for a run at the finals'.

Clarkson touched down on Monday night in preparation for the Willetton Tigers on Saturday night where he will make his debut at the 'Hot House'.
