Mixed Results for Wolves

IT was a mixed weekend for the Wanneroo Wolves men's State Basketball League team, splitting their Round 3 double header with the Stirling Senators and Perry Lakes Hawks.

After beating the Senators by 11 points on Friday night, they lost by the same margin 24 hours later.

Damian Matacz (24 points) top scored for the Wolves against Stirling as the visitors prevailed against their local rivals 102-91.

Matacz received solid support from Tony Pearman (19), Reece Maxwell (16) and Scott Moore (15). Jeff Dowell led the way on the boards with 11 of his team's 48 rebounds, but was quiet offensively.

After an even first half Wolves scored 31 to 20 in the third period to set up an unassailable lead.

The following evening, the Wolves travelled to Perry Lakes Stadium but started slowly.

Despite getting back into the game in the second quarter, the home side shot at a much better percentage over the four quarters to win 103-92. The Wolves only converted 34 percent of their shots.

- Wanneroo Wolves women also had a win and a loss in Round 3 beating the Stirling Senators 78-58, but were thrashed 96-58 the following night by Perry Lakes Hawks.

The Wolves are away to the Perth Redbacks this Friday night. The women's game starts at 6.30pm with an 8.30 tip-off for the men.
