Week 13 Men's SBL Wrap

THE Joondalup Wolves and Cockburn Cougars maintained their dominance at the top of the Men's SBL in Week 13 action with the Stirling Senators and Perth Redbacks continuing their charge, and the Goldfields Giants, Lakeside Lightning and Mandurah Magic seeing their losing streaks extend.

The Wolves and Cougars are both on five-game winning runs to be the runaway leaders in the Men's SBL while three straight wins for the Senators has them up into fourth spot and three in succession has the Redbacks into sixth.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Giants have now lost seven in-a-row, the Lightning nine and the Magic six as they all fall further from playoff contention.

The three matches on Friday night saw the Goodlife Homes Willetton Tigers defeat the Lakeside Lightning 103-77, the Print Sync South West Slammers defeat the Perry Lakes Hawks 116-111 and the Lapa Brazilian BBQ Restaurant Cockburn Cougars beat the Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles 100-93.

Then on Saturday night, the S&K Electrical Contracting Geraldton Buccaneers beat the Mandurah Magic 111-86, the Texture WA Perth Redbacks beat the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants 114-93, the Lapa Brazilian BBQ Restaurant Cockburn Cougars downed the Kalamunda Eastern Suns 130-94 and the Bethanie Stirling Senators defeated the Nags Head Tavern Rockingham Flames 97-91.

Lastly on Sunday, the Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles defeated the Lakeside Lightning 110-85 and the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro City of Joondalup Wolves beat the Perry Lakes Hawks 100-82.

Following Week 13 of the 2016 Men's SBL season, the Merriwa Tavern & Bistro City of Joondalup Wolves remain on top of the standings at 13-2. The Lapa Brazilian BBQ Restaurant Cockburn Cougars aren’t far behind at 14-3.

The Goodlife Homes Willetton Tigers are in third position at 11-5 ahead of the Bethanie Stirling Senators (12-6), S&K Electrical Contracting Geraldton Buccaneers (12-6), Texture WA Perth Redbacks (9-7), Nags Head Tavern Rockingham Flames (10-8) and Perry Lakes Hawks (8-10).

The Vorian Agency East Perth Eagles (7-10) are just outside the top eight followed by the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants (6-11), Print Sync South West Slammers (5-10), Lakeside Lightning (4-12), Mandurah Magic (4-13) and Kalamunda Eastern Suns (2-14).

The Team of the Week is made up of Jourdan DeMuynck (Perth Redbacks), Royal Crouch (South West Slammers), Kevin Davis (Joondalup Wolves), Cooper Land (Rockingham Flames) and Marcus Goode (Cockburn Cougars).

Goode was named to the Team of the Week for a second time this season and earned Player of the Week honours.

On Friday night against the Eagles, he had 35 points and 20 rebounds on the back of shooting 13-of-26 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.

Then on Saturday in the win over the Eastern Suns, he delivered 23 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks on shooting 9-of-21 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the stripe.

DeMuynck was named to the Team of the Week for a fourth time this season after helping the Redbacks to a win over the Giants on the road on Saturday night. He finished with 41 points, 12 rebounds and six assists shooting 17-of-27 from the floor and 5-of-7 from downtown.

Crouch helped the Slammers to a win over the Hawks on Friday night and was named to the Team of the Week for a second time this season. He had 32 points and 14 rebounds shooting 15-of-24 from the field.

Davis was named to the Team of the Week for a second time in 2016 after helping the Wolves to a win on Sunday over the Hawks with 32 points, 14 rebounds and three assists shooting 9-of-19 from the floor, and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Land, meanwhile, earned a Team of the Week spot for a fifth time in 2016 despite the Flames losing to the Senators on Saturday night. He finished with 34 points,15 rebounds, four assists and two steals shooting 14-of-24 from the field.

There were other standout performers as well starting on Friday night with the Tigers beating the Lightning by 26 points.

Kyle Armour finished with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Tigers, Jay Bowie 20 points, five boards and two assists, Damien Scott 16 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals, Nic Cody 14 points and 10 boards, and Andrew Black nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Lightning lost their sixth match in-a-row on Friday with Daniel Alexander contributing 21 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. TJ Hallice added 14 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots, Daniel Grida 14 points and five boards.

The Lightning lost a seventh straight match against the Eagles on Sunday with Alexander finishing with 17 points and five rebounds, Corey Shervill 14 points, Matthew Vinci 14 points and Tom Parkinson 10 points and eight boards.

The Slammers beat the Hawks on Friday night with Tre Nichols contributing 23 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to give him another triple-double. Corey Easley added 18 points, Wade Hitchcock 13 points, Teny Puot 13 points and eight rebounds, and Clive Weeden 12 points, six boards and three assists.

Ben Purser finished with 27 points and four rebounds for the Hawks shooting 10-of-17 from the field. Brian Carlwell contributed 18 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, Ben Dixon 16 points and four assists, Ryan Smith 15 points and eight boards, Jordan Hickert 11 points.

The Hawks went down to the Wolves on Sunday with Purser again top-scoring with 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Matthew Sellers added 15 points and 10 rebounds, Dixon 15 points and Smith 11 points and eight boards.

The Cougars beat the Eagles on Friday night with Najee Lane contributing 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals, Gavin Field 19 points, five assists and three blocked shots, and Sheldon McIntyre eight points and 10 boards.

Then in Saturday's win for the Cougars over the Eastern Suns, Lane contributed 19 point, four steals, four assists and three rebounds, Field 15 points and five boards, Rhett Della 14 points and 11 rebounds, Daniel Thomas 13 points and six assists, Julian Pesava 11 points, four steals and three rebounds, and McIntyre 10 points, 11 boards, two assists and two blocks.

The Eagles went down to the Cougars on Friday with Tom Jervis finishing with 24 points and 18 rebounds.

Thomas Korf contributed 19 points, Sunday Dech 12 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, Rhys Vague 12 points and seven boards, and Nikola Donlagic 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Eagles beat the Lightning on Sunday by 25 points with Drew Williamson starring with 33 points, four steals and four assists shooting 10-of-19 from the field and 6-of-7 from three-point territory.

Vague added 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for East Perth, Dech 16 points and 13 boards, Korf 12 points and five rebounds, and Jervis 10 points and seven boards.

The Eastern Suns went down to the Cougars on Saturday without Tim Squire, Brandon McGill and Jarrad Prior. Kerrod Horn top-scored with 16 points and four rebounds, Geordie Murray 13 points, Courtney Belger 12 points and five assists, and Ryan Blanchett 10 points and nine boards.

The Senators beat the Flames by six points on Saturday night with Kyle Lindbergh top-scoring with 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Cody Ellis contributed 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, Ashley Litterick 15 points and three boards, AJ Majstrovich 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Corban Wroe 13 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Ryan Godfrey added 15 points for the Flames, Chudier Pal 15 points, 15 rebounds and two blocked shots, and Taylor Land 10 points, 10 boards, and eight assists.

The Buccaneers defeated the Magic by 25 points on Saturday night with Matthew Adekponya returning and top-scoring with 28 points and 10 rebounds shooting 10-of-16 from the floor including 3-of-6 from long range.

Jackson Hussey made his first appearance having signed with the Buccs during the week and he had 16 points, six rebounds and four assists while Carter Cook contributed 16 points, six boards and two assists, and Maurice Barrow 12 points and five rebounds.

Trevor Setty delivered 36 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks for the Magic, Ben Smith 22 points and 15 boards, and Jarrad Jackson 17 points, four assists and three rebounds.

The Redbacks beat the Giants on the road with Lewis Thomas adding 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals, Joel Wagner 15 points, eight assists and four boards, and Michael Vigor 14 points and seven rebounds.

Jacob Holmen contributed 25 points, five assists and three assists for the Giants, Kenny Manigault 13 points, nine boards, six assists and three steals, Daniel Goodluck 13 points, seven assists and five rebounds, Russell Hurst 11 points and six boards, and Ezra Nikora 10 points.

The Wolves beat the Hawks on Sunday by 18 points with Greg Hire contributing 22 points and seven rebounds, Reece Maxwell 12 points, four rebounds and three steals, and Rob Huntington 10 points, seven boards and four assists.
