Women's Quarter Finals Week 2 SBL Preview

THE Lakeside Lightning, Joondalup Wolves, Cockburn Cougars and Rockingham Flames all have two chances this weekend to win their women's SBL quarter final series' respectively.

The Lightning and Flames were the two dominant teams in the women's SBL during the 2014 regular season and could find themselves into the semi finals already by Friday night while the Cougars and Wolves both play their quarter final Game 2 matches on Saturday night.

The Game 2 action on Friday night sees the Lakeside Lightning hosting the Mandurah Magic at Lakeside Recreation Centre while the Orange Autos Rockingham Flames face the Willetton Tigers at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

Both Friday night matches tip-off at 6.30pm.

Then on Saturday night, the final two Game 2 matches of the women's quarter finals takes place with the Kalamunda Eastern Suns playing the Soprano Lady Cougars at Ray Owen Sports Centre at 6.30pm.

Then at 7.30pm at Joondalup Basketball Stadium, the Joondalup Wolves play the Stirling Senators at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

Lakeside has now won 10 straight matches after finishing the regular season on a nine-game winning streak with Mandurah facing an uphill battle to make a series of it now.

The Lightning went undefeated at home during the regular season and now need just one more victory on their home floor against a Magic team who finished in seventh position with a 12-10 record.

The Flames were the dominant team of the women's SBL during the regular season having won 17 straight matches before ending the regular season with a 20-2 while the Tigers only managed to secure a playoffs berth on the eve of the finals with a 10-12 record.

Rockingham won Game 1 of the quarter final series with Willetton 98-84 last Saturday night at Willetton Basketball Stadium.

The Eastern Suns and Cougars both deservedly hold championship aspirations in 2014 with the fourth and fifth-ranked teams locked in a tense quarter final battle.

Cockburn won Game 1 last Saturday night 73-68 at Wally Hagan Stadium and now the quarter final series switches to Kalamunda this weekend.

The Wolves and Senators are two more teams expected to contend for the 2014 women's SBL championship but only one will survive this weekend.

The defending champion Joondalup won Game 1 last Saturday night 74-71 at Warwick Leisure Centre and now host the potential two matches this weekend with a semi final berth on the line.

If the seventh-ranked Magic manages to upset to the second-placed Lightning on Friday night, then their deciding Game 3 will take place at 6pm at Lakeside Recreation Centre on Saturday night.

If the eighth-seeded Tigers are able to beat the minor premier Flames on Friday night then a Game 3 with a semi final berth on the line will take place on Saturday night at 6.30pm at Mike Barnett Sports Complex.

If the Eastern Suns beat the Cougars at home on Saturday night, then at midday on Sunday Kalamunda and Cockburn will take place in Game 3 at Ray Owen Sports Centre.

If the Senators then manage to beat the defending champion Wolves on the road on Saturday night, Game 3 will also take place at Joondalup Basketball Stadium on Sunday with tip-off at 12pm.
