Buccs record first home court win

The Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers didn’t disappoint fans on Saturday night for the second home game for the season.

The Buccs proved determined to send the South West Slammers home without a win.

Buccs dominated the first quarter and went on to win the game 121-100.

Buccs coach Mark Heron said the team had improved over the last few weeks, but still had a long way to go to achieve their finals goals.

“We got off to a really impressive start last night, but we were disappointed we couldn’t continue the pace after the first quarter, ” he said.

“The game was really won in the first quarter — we need to work on continuing that momentum and not playing in patches.”

Buccs import Bennie Lewis proved an asset to the team.

He performed well in front of the packed Activewest Stadium, scoring 34 points.

The win was the Buccs first home court win for the season, after a disappointing eight-point loss to the Joondalup Wolves late last month.

Shamus Ballantyne, who is yet to play a game in Geraldton this season, didn’t make the game after the birth of his daughter.

Carter Cook took honours for best on court for his 28 points during the game.

Heron said the win had improved the team’s confidence, but added they still had a long way to go.

“We’re on a bit of a roll at the moment, but there are a lot of areas we need to improve on, ” he said.

“We’ve had two good weekends, but we’ve got a goal in mind and we need to keep improving to achieve that goal.”

The game was really won in the first quarter — we need to work on continuing that momentum Mark Heron.
