Suns, Tigers hunt win (Week 3 Women's SBL Preview)

LAST year's women's SBL grand finalists Kalamunda and minor premiers Willetton both get a chance to record their first wins of 2014 to highlight Week 3 action over the weekend.

There are two matches on each day over Friday, Saturday and Sunday in women's SBL action this weekend.

On Friday night, the Kalamunda Eastern Suns take on the Schweigen East Perth Eagles and the Lakeside Lightning face the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers. Both games tip-off at 6.30pm.

Then on Saturday night, the Perth Redbacks play the Mandurah Magic and the Willetton Tigers face the Perry Lakes Hawks. Both games begin at 6pm.

Then on Sunday afternoon at midday, the Wanneroo Wolves play the Rockingham Flames and the Mandurah Magic takes on the Cockburn Cougars.

On Friday night, Kalamunda will be out to get its first win on the board for 2014 after a terrific 2013 that saw the Eastern Suns make a stirring run all the way to the grand final before coming up short against the Wolves.

However, the Suns haven’t started their 2014 how they hoped so far losing to Cockburn, Geraldton and the Slammers heading into this Friday's clash at home against the Eagles.

While East Perth won just the one game in 2013, it already has matched that in 2014 with a win last Saturday over the Senators so will be no pushovers for Kalamunda.

Friday's other game pits two unbeaten teams against one another when the Lightning hosts the Slammers.

Both have played just the one game so far in 2014 with Lakeside beating East Perth in Week 1 and South Western downing Kalamunda last weekend.

On Saturday night, the Redbacks are out for their first victory of the women's SBL season when they host the 1-1 Magic.

Perth has lost its three games so far this year to Rockingham, Stirling and Perry Lakes by a combined 102 points so will need to turn that form around against a Mandurah team who has far beaten Perry Lakes, but lost to Rockingham.

Saturday's other contest also sees a winless team desperate to get on the board in 2014 with last year's minor premiers Willetton hosting a Perry Lakes team who has beaten Perth but lost to Mandurah so far this season.

The Tigers have lost their first three matches to Wanneroo, Cockburn and Rockingham.

There are then two games also on Sunday with three of the four teams playing for the first time on the weekend.

The unbeaten from one game Wolves take on the on-fire Flames coming off thrashings of the Redbacks, Magic and Tigers to start the season.

The Magic will then be the only team to back up from a Saturday night fixture hosting the also unbeaten Cougars on Sunday afternoon.
