Kickz101 Perth' Newcomers of the Week
The week eighteen ‘Kickz101 Perth’, Men’s Newcomer of the Week has been awarded to Simon Lokan of the Willetton Tigers.
On Saturday night the Tigers were defeated by the East Perth Eagles 102-130, however, 204cm, Simon Lokan was a shining light for Willetton as he worked tirelessly against one of the best centres in the league, Tom Jervis, to record 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block.
With just a 14 hour turnaround, on Sunday the Tigers took on the Goldfields Giants at the Willetton Basketball Stadium where Lokan was again impressive, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 blocks to guide Willetton to a twenty-seven point victory 118-91.
At just twenty-two years-of-age and nearing on 100 SBL games, Lokan has been a handy acquisition for the Tigers since transferring from the Lakeside Lightning last season, with fans keen to watch him develop under head coach Matt Foster.
Mandurah Magic’s Briana Klasztorny has been announced the week eighteen ‘Kickz101 Perth’ Women’s Newcomer of the Week.
On Friday night the Magic managed to snap their eight game losing streak with a victory over the East Perth Eagles at the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre. Klasztorny was by far the most influential player on the floor, recording a game high 20 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists to lead Mandurah to a seven point victory 48-41.
The second phase of Mandurah’s double-header was always going to be tough, as the Magic took on the league’s leading scorer in Samantha Whitcomb and the Rockingham Flames at Mike Barnett Sports Complex. After a stellar Friday night, Briana Klasztorny continued her form, to record another double-double with 11 points, 18 rebounds and 2 assists, as the Flames defeated the Magic 73-49.
Celebrating her twenty-third birthday just last week, Klasztorny has been developing in the WSBL since 2006 and is now considered one of the Magic’s most damaging players at both ends of the floor.
Lokan and Klasztorny are now in contention for the monthly award where the winner of a facebook poll receives a pair of shoes of their choice thanks to Kickz101 Perth.
