Crucial clashes all round (Week 17 Men's Preview)

The Geraldton Buccaneers are eyeing off second spot, the South West Slammers and Cockburn Cougars spots in the eight and the Mandurah Magic facing two big tests to stay in the top-four in men's SBL action in Week 17 of the competition.

There are just the two matches on Friday night with the Mandurah Magic hosting the Lakeside Lightning and then the Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers taking on the Stirling Senators.

Then on Saturday night, the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers host the People's Choice Eagles, the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants battle the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers, the BOQ Perth Redbacks face the Kalamunda Eastern Suns, the Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves host the Mandurah Magic, the Perry Lakes Hawks face the Willetton Tigers and the Cockburn Cougars take on the Rockingham Flames.

Mandurah has been in impressive form in the SBL lately winning four of the last five games to be sitting on 12-8 in fourth position but face a big ask on Friday at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre against the top-of-the-table Lakeside Lightning.

The Lightning consolidated top spot last week with back-to-back wins over the East Perth Eagles and Perry Lakes Hawks, but the Magic also did well to beat Willetton and have a terrific 8-2 record at home this season setting up an enthralling battle.

The other Friday night clash sees the eighth-placed Tigers hosting the 12th-ranked Senators at Willetton Basketball Stadium with Willetton needing to win to hold out the South West Slammers.

The Slammers sit on 10-10 in ninth position and have a big trip on Saturday night to take on the Goldfields Giants at Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium.

The Giants are struggling having lost their last eight matches meaning that South West will be favoured to win and put further pressure on Willetton in the top-eight.

The Geraldton Buccaneers are in tremendous form having won five straight games to improve to a 14-7 record to be looking good in third position and knocking on the door for second.

The Buccaneers host the East Perth Eagles on Saturday night at Active West Stadium with the Eagles looking to bounce back from a loss to Lakeside last week to continue to be in the hunt for a top-four spot.

The Perth Redbacks are also looking to maintain touch with the top-four and host the bottom-placed Kalamunda Eastern Suns at Belmont Oasis. The Suns are yet to win on the road this season.

The Wanneroo Wolves are just hanging onto a spot in the eight as well but have found some form of late winning their last two games to improve to 11-10 and now host Mandurah at Joondalup Basketball Stadium with the Magic coming off their tough clash with Lakeside on Friday.

It's another crucial clash at the WA Basketball Centre with the Perry Lakes Hawks hosting the Willetton Tigers. Perry Lakes needs to win to hold onto second spot and the Tigers need to back up well from Friday's clash to stay in the eight.

The final clash of the weekend pits the defending champion Cockburn Cougars against the Rockingham Flames at Wally Hagan Stadium.

The Cougars continued their resurgence last week with a win over the Goldfields Giants to have now won five straight games to improve to a 9-12 record to continue to put pressure on for a spot in the top-eight.

The Flames had won four straight games before going down to Wanneroo last Saturday, but will be looking to upset the Cougars' charge to defending their title.
