Week fourteen SBL Players of the Week

Lakeside Lightning star Jarrad Prue has taken out the week fourteen Men’s SBL Player of the Week award.

With his phenomenal rebounding ability, Prue continues to lead the league with an astounding 20.4 rebounds per game, six more than any other player.

Prue put his talents on show last Saturday night when the Lightning took on Willetton at the Lakeside Recreation Centre, putting together one of the best statistical games of the season recording a triple-double with 16 points, 28 rebounds, 10 assists and 3 blocks as the Lightning defeated the Tigers 127-87.

198cm Prue finds himself undersized at the centre position in the SBL, however, having perfected the art of rebounding makes him one of the most valuable players in the league and will play a vital role as Lakeside push deep into the MSBL finals.

Other considerations for the award included Steven Bennett (Rockingham), Benjamin Smith (Kalamunda), Adrian Majstrovich (Perry Lakes), Cory Cooperwood (Stirling), David Reichel (Cockburn), Quinn McDowell (Willetton), Brandon Adams (Willetton), Trian Iliadis (Wanneroo), Michael Vigor (Perth), Robert Kampman (Geraldton) and Markhuri Sanders-Frison (Goldfields).

The week fourteen women’s SBL Player of the Week has been awarded to Rockingham Flames import Samantha Whitcomb for the third time this season.

Whitcomb has been in incredible form since joining the Flames in week five to find herself leading the league in points per game with an average of 24.8 and steals per game averaging 3.4.

Whitcomb could not be contained when Rockingham visited Kalamunda at Ray Owen Sports Centre last Saturday night to record 36 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals leading her team to a twenty-one point win 89-68.

The Flames have been in red-hot form and currently sit second on the WSBL ladder equal on points with ladder leaders Wanneroo.

Other considerations for the award included Marita Payne (Perth), Lisa Wallbutton (Willetton), Shani Amos (Wanneroo), Melissa Marsh (Willetton), Antonia Edmondson (Willetton), Natalie Burton (Perry Lakes), Rosie Tobin (Perry Lakes), Nicole Jorre St Jorre (East Perth), Jessica Beran (Lakeside), Jennie Rintala (Kalamunda), Belinda Mayger (Perry Lakes) and Emily Fielding (Lakeside).
