Senators look to down another top eight victim (Week 12 Women's Preview)

Ladder leaders Rockingham are back in action tonight when they tip-off round 12 of the women’s State Basketball League at home against Stirling.

The Flames have won their past nine games to storm to the top of the ladder after a slow start and only the bye temporarily halted their momentum last week.

The Flames will be expected to continue on their merry way tonight when they host a Stirling side that has limped to a 4-8 record in the first half of the year.

But the Senators are not without hope, having beaten top-eight sides South West and Cockburn this month.

In Friday’s other game, Mandurah will be looking to close the gap on the top eight when they host South West.

The Magic have won two of their past three games and will be confident of beating a Slammers side that has lost its past four straight.

But the Slammers ran out comfortable winners when the teams last met way back in round three.

Mandurah are one of two teams backing up on Saturday and will see another window of opportunity to climb up the ladder when they visit fifth-placed Cockburn.

Stirling’s double-header concludes with the visit of Perth Redbacks to the Warwick Leisure Centre on Saturday, while third-placed Wanneroo will start hot favourites at home against an East Perth side that sits last after losing its past eight games.

Sunday’s standalone fixture should be a cracker, with fourth-placed Kalamunda hosting fifth-placed Cockburn as the teams jostle for higher play-off positions.

Willetton kept pace with Rockingham at the top last week but will have a stint on the sidelines with a bye in round 12.
