Suns enjoy rare night out (Saturday Night Wrap)

The Kalamunda Eastern Suns' men's and women's SBL teams had their best combined night of the season at home to the Stirling Senators in Saturday night's action.

Kalamunda's men's team beat the Stirling Senators 108-89 at Ray Owen Sports Centre for its second win of the 2013 season and surprisingly it wasn’t on the back of former Melbourne Tigers, Perth Wildcats and Townsville Crocs, and Australian Boomers centre Luke Nevill dominating.

The Suns came flying out of the blocks scoring 34-20 in the first period to set up the win and Louis Timms finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Ben Smith added 25 points and four assists and Joel Questel 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Nevill had 13 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists, three blocks and two steals.

Jordan Wild finished with 29 points, 24 rebounds and seven assists for the Senators with Cory Cooperwood adding 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Josh Throns and Sean Gilmore both had 15 points.

The Suns' women's team beat the Senators 84-70 to improve to an 8-4 record and sit in fourth position on the ladder.

Four players scored in double-figures for Kalamunda with Melissa Moyle leading the way with 17 points, Adrienne Jones 16, Lizel Buckley 14 and Emma Berryman 12.

Tegan Walker had 15 points for Stirling with Taylor Lilley adding 14 points and six assists, Lyndal Gardner 14, 11 rebounds and five assists, and Amber Land 11 points and 11 boards.

The Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers beat the Mandurah Magic 107-85 at Active West Stadium with Daniel Thomas hitting 31 points and four assists on a perfect 6-of-6 from three-point territory.

Carter Cook also had 26 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists with Rob Kampman adding 14 points, Aaron Ralph 11 and Matt Wunderberg 17 rebounds.

Taylor Mullenax had 26 points and seven rebounds for the Magic with Taylor Land adding 17 points and Aaron Trahair 14.

The Rockingham Flames recorded a thumping 105-77 win over the Silver Lake Resources Goldfields Giants at Neils Hansen Basketball Stadium.

Steve Bennett had a huge game for the Flames with 32 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds with Trent Gerovich adding 16 points, Cooper Land 15, Jake Amos 13 and Travis Moore 11 to go with 11 boards.

Jaycen Herring had a big night for Goldfields scoring 40 of their 77 points on the back of 16-of-22 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from three-point territory. Lordan Franich added 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Markhuri Sanders-Frison 15 boards.

The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers upset the Australian Belt Scrapers Wanneroo Wolves 101-99 at Eaton Recreation Centre with Jamahr Warren outstanding with 34 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and six steals for the Slammers.

Trent Worthington also had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Ty Harrelson 19 points, 14 assists and 10 boards, Clive Weeden 12 points, and Wade Hitchcock 11.

Trian Iliadis scored 25 points for the Wolves with Seb Salinas adding 24 points, Rob Huntington 18, Damian Matacz 11 and Reece Maxwell 11.

The People's Choice Eagles remained second on the table with a 105-99 win over the defending champion Cockburn Cougars at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre.

Drew Williamson top-scored for East Perth with 24 points with Jarrod Balcombe adding 18, Tom Jervis 16 (and 10 boards) and Michael Jones 12 to go with six rebounds and five steals.

Gavin Field hit 35 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists for the Cougars with Brian Carlwell adding 22 points and 14 boards, David Reichel 14 points and Damien Scott 13.

The Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers beat the BOQ Perth Redbacks 91-88 at Willetton Basketball Stadium with Quinn McDowell scoring 32 points to go with 11 rebounds. Brandon Adams added 26 points and 12 boards, and Kyle Armour 14 points.

Bennie Lewis scored 21 points for the Redbacks with Adam Johnston scoring 18 points and Jarrad Prior 13. Joel Wagner also had nine points and nine assists.

The Wanneroo Wolves women's team beat the South West Slammers 54-52 to remain in third spot on the ladder with Nikita-Lee Martin top-scoring with 14 points. Shani Amos also had nine points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Kimberly Sitzmann scored 19 points and pulled in seven boards for the Slammers with Donnell Wallam and Zoe Harper both adding 10 points.

The Cockburn Cougars improved to a 7-5 record with a 65-44 win over the Toll Ipec Eagles with Stephanie Jones having a huge game for the Cougars with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Emma Pass also had eight points and 10 boards.

Denielle Lipscombe scored 17 points for the Eagles while Elizabeth Cooke pulled in 11 rebounds.

The Willetton Tigers remained in second spot with a 64-42 win over the Perth Redbacks largely thanks to a dominant 24-6 third quarter.
