Redbacks’ Split Ledger

The BOQ Redbacks State Basketball League teams split the ledger with both the men’s and women’s teams having one win and one loss.

The Redbacks men had a strong 101 to 94 win over the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers in Eaton.

Swing-man Bennie Lewis top-scored with 23 while bringing down six rebounds and making five assists.

In his 200th game shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored 21, which included hitting five from nine three-point shots, as well as making four steals and two assists and bringing down three rebounds.

However, the Redbacks’ men had a heartbreaking 94 to 95 overtime loss against Mandurah Magic after the game was tied 88 apiece at the end of regular time.

Centre Justin Brown top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 along with 21 rebounds, while point-guard Adam Johnston had 19 along with six assists and six rebounds and shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored 20 and had two steals.

The BOQ Redbacks’ men now have six wins and four losses and are in fifth place in the 14-team competition.

The BOQ Redbacks’ women’s team lost to the Slammers 52 to 63.

Point-guard Rachel Lisch top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 and had five rebounds while centre Marita Payne scored nine along with nine rebounds.

However, they bounced back to beat Magic 57 to 44.

Payne dominated with 19 along with 18 rebounds.

Forward Jess Jakens scored 11 and had three steals and four rebounds while point-guard Gabby O’Sullivan scored 10 along with steals.

The Redbacks’ women now have three wins and five losses and are in ninth-place in the 12-team competition.

The action continues on Friday at Belmont Oasis when the Redbacks take on Lakeside Lightning, with the women’s game starting at 6.30PM and the men’s game at 8.30PM.
