Redbacks win on road over Slammers (Friday Night Wrap)

The BOQ Perth Redbacks men's SBL team impressed on Friday night becoming the first road team this season to win in Eaton while Taylor Mullenax led the Mandurah Magic to a strong win over the Willetton Tigers.

The Redbacks were impressive beating the Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers 101-94 at Eaton Recreation Centre to improve to a 6-3 record on the season.

Bennie Lewis top-scored with 23 points with Jarrad Prior adding 21, Joel Wagner 18 and Michael Vigor 11. Former Perth Wildcats centre Justin Brown also had nine points and 13 rebounds.

Jamahr Warren had 27 points and 10 rebounds for South West with Trent Worthington adding 25 points and nine boards. Clive Weeden added 13 points and nine boards.

The Mandurah Magic beat the Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers 94-87 at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre thanks to a huge game from Mullenax who finished with 34 points and 14 rebounds on the back of shooting 14-of-20 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

He had good support from Ben Caporn with 14 points, Rhett Della Maddalena with 13 points, 14 boards and five assists, and Paul Pantaleo with 11 points.

Quinn McDowell hit 26 points for the Tigers with Brandon Adams adding 16 points, Hayden Noordhoek 11, Adam Nener 11 and Kyle Armour 10.

The People's Choice Eagles returned to the winner's list with a 115-85 thumping of the Rockingham Flames at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre after a huge first half out-scoring their opponent 70-44.

Drew Williamson was on-fire for the Eagles with 31 points and seven rebounds while shooting 11-of-16 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point range.

Tom Jervis also had 22 points and 13 rebounds with Michael Jones adding 10 points and Jarrod Balcombe 20. Austin Kisselev pulled in 12 boards as well.

Brendan Della Maddalena and Trent Gerovich both had 20 points for the Flames with Cooper Land adding 15 points and Marko Deric 11.

The Perry Lakes Hawks improved to an 8-1 record under new coach Shawn Dennis with a thumping 114-84 win over the Stirling Senators at the WA Basketball Centre.

Adrian Majstrovich top-scored for the Hawks with 23 points and 11 rebounds with Corey Easley adding 18 points, Ben Purser 16, Michael Lay 16, Rob Cassir 14 and Tevin Jackson 12.

Jordan Wild was impressive for the Senators finishing with 32 points and 14 rebounds. Caleb Davis added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Josh Throns 16 points.

In women's action, the South West Slammers beat the Perth Redbacks 63-52 with Kimberly Sitzmann hitting 22 points, Kara Hargreaves 13 and Donnell Wallam 12.

Rachel Lisch top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 points with no other player scoring in double-figures. Marita Payne had nine points and nine rebounds.

The Willetton Tigers took care of business against the Mandurah Magic winning 62-48 thanks to a dominant 30-16 second half.

Lisa Wallbutton top-scored for the Tigers with 15 points and 13 rebounds with Emma Lobb adding 11 points. Melissa Marsh had just two points, but worked hard for eight rebounds and six assists to still be a strong contributor.

Ashlee Sidebottom had 20 points for the Magic with Briana Klasztorny adding 10 to go with six rebounds.

Last year's grand finalists Rockingham continued East Perth's horror start to the season with an emphatic 102-70 victory largely set up by a 35-point first quarter.

Samantha Whitcomb led the way for the Flames with 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists with Kaye Tucker adding 23 points, seven assists and six boards. Jacinta Bourne chipped in with 12 points and Mary-Alice Telfer 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Denielle Lipscombe had 15 points for the Eagles with Nicole Jorre St Jorre adding 14 points and Elizabeth Cooke also 14.

The Perry Lakes Hawks beat the Stirling Senators 83-70 at home with Gabriella Clayton scoring 24 points, Natalie Burton 21 and Rebecca Boyanich 10. Rosie Tobin pulled in 11 rebounds.

Lyndal Gardiner hit 18 points for the Senators with Tegan Walker adding 17. Taylor Lilley finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
