Buccs release Perrin, sign Peterson

The Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers Geraldton Buccaneers were forced to take swift action to sever ties with import Spencer Perrin, after he reportedly claimed to American media that he had a $1 million deal with the club.

Central Kentucky news website www.centralkynews.com on January 31 reported Perrin saying it was the “best deal he had ever signed”.

The 24-year-old also added that the Buccs had stumped up a private plane for him and his family to travel from America.

“They are paying for me and my family to fly over and we will even be on a private plane the last part of the trip,” Perrin was quoted as stating.

“We will have a three-bedroom apartment on the beach that is great.”

It is understood the report set off warning bells among the Buccs recruitment team, who were dumbfounded by the comments.

But the axing of the deal could have turned into a win-win for Geraldton’s SBL side. The Buccs this week recruited highly-billed utility and fancied 2011 NBA draft prospect Jamine Peterson.

He could even feature at an exhibition game at the Carnamah Sports Complex tomorrow from 8.30pm.

Buccaneers director Andrew Horstman yesterday said in a statement:

“The Buccs always seeks to make a positive impact within the community as well as the State of Western Australia. This consideration is vital in selecting the right players for the Buccaneers which in certain situations means going back and reassessing the right fit for both the team and the community.”
