Hawks appoint Wildcats assistant Shawn Dennis

Perry Lakes Hawks are excited to announce Perth Wildcats Assistant Coach Shawn Dennis as their Men’s SBL Head Coach for the next two seasons.

Dennis was selected from a strong field of candidates after a thorough selection process was undertaken by the Club.

“We are delighted to be able to attract a coach of Shawn’s calibre and experience to guide the Club through an important phase in our development” said President Mike Garlepp.

During a 25 year career as a NBL Player and Coach, Dennis has played nine years with the Newcastle Falcons and Hobart Devils.

Since retiring Dennis has been an assistant coach with the Newcastle Falcons, Wollongong Hawks, West Sydney Razorbacks, Sydney Spirit and currently Perth Wildcats.

As a head Coach, Dennis has also headed up the Hawkes Bay Hawks for six years in the NZ NBL where he guided the team to the 2006 NZ NBL Championship.

Dennis also has international basketball experience as the head coach of the NZ National Women’s Junior and Senior teams.

“Shawn brings a wealth of experience from various levels of the game which fits perfectly with the current direction of the Club” said Garlepp.

Speaking on the appointment, Dennis said “the opportunity to coach in a Club like the Perry Lakes Hawks was too good to pass up on and with such a young team, the future of the Hawks is very bright."

"I have a responsibility to the Club to be involved and help where I can and it’s my intentions to not only help with player development but to put back into the Club by sharing my experiences with the coaches as well” Dennis said.

“The Hawks have a proud history and my fiancée Alana and I look forward to becoming part of the Club.”
