Slammers advance in first finals campaign (Women's quarter finals wrap)

South West Slammers have swept the Perth Redbacks 2 games to zero in their first ever quarter finals campaign to advance to the semi-finals of the women’s State Basketball League.

The Slammers were convincing in their 73-48 victory leading at every quarter, local Bianca Donovan led the scoring with 18 points, while import Kim Sitzmann had 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Rockingham Flames were down 1-0 in their series against Kalamunda Eastern Suns, however they managed to level the series with a 68-57 game two victory to force a third and deciding game on Saturday.

Star import Emma Cannon dominated the match with 28 points and 21 rebounds while 2010 WSBL MVP Kaye Tucker finished with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Sandra Faye Muller-Garner worked hard for the Eastern Suns with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Adrienne Jones was solid in support with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Game three saw the Eastern Suns get out to a nine point lead at half time, however a 52-34 second half saw the Flames run away with the match 88-79, and the series 2-1.

Emma Cannon was again outstanding in game three with a massive 35 points and 26 rebounds, the star import was again supported by Kaye Tucker with 22 points.

Adrienne Jones piled a massive 31 points and nine rebounds on the board for Kalamunda, Emma Berryman (15 points) and Rachel Muenggenborg (15 points, seven rebounds) provided support.

The defending champion Willetton Tigers bounced back from last weekends loss to take down the Lakeside Lightning 74-59 on Friday night to level the series at one game apiece

Dynamic guard Courtney Hargreaves was the star with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while West Coast Waves captain Melissa Marsh (16 points) and Emma Lobb (14 points) provided support.

Willetton backed up their game two win the following night with a 62-54 victory to advance to the semi-finals, Jasmine Hooper was the Tigers best with 20 points and ten rebounds.

Minor premiers the Wanneroo Wolves pulled out a 2-0 series win over last year’s grand finalists, East Perth, with a 73-63 victory on Saturday night in-front of their home crowd.

Shani Amos was the Wolves best with 25 points and five rebounds, while Sam Norwood worked hard for the Eagles to finish with 21 points and eight rebounds.
