Battle weary Redbacks face uphill battle

Perth Redbacks coach David Harris said his team faces an uphill battle tomorrow night.

Harris said his team had been decimated by injures this season and would be going into tomorrow’s game against the Buccs’ without their two top scorers.

Adrian Majstrovich is out for the rest of the season with broken ribs and Michael Vigor will miss the clash due to a back injury.

Harris said tomorrow night’s game is not about the result for the Redbacks.

“Our playoff spot is secured, we can not move up or down on the ladder,” he said.

“To be honest we would be happy to get out of town without anybody else getting injured.

“For us it is just all about the way we are playing and making sure our processes are right.”

Majstrovich has played seven games this season and averaged more 26 points per contest while Vigor’s average of 22 points a game is the team’s second highest.

Perth’s most experienced player Ryan Neill will also miss tomorrow’s game with a shoulder injury, adding to Harris’ headaches.

Point guard and former Perth Wildcats development player Joel Wagner will be one player Harris will look to tomorrow night.

Harris said the clash with the Buccs would serve as perfect preparation for the Redbacks’ playoff run.

“This weekend is a good preparation for the playoffs, you are not going to get a more finals-like atmosphere then the one in Geraldton.”

Majstovich and Vigor scored 32 and 27 points respectively when the teams met earlier this season on April 28.

Michael Lay was the star for the Buccs in Perth on that occasion.

Harris said he would not look too far into the result as preparation this week.

“That was one of only three games this season that we have been at full strength and we were pretty happy with how we played,” he said

“They (the Buccs) are very tough to guard, they are very dynamic and then Ralphy and Sabia can shoot the ball which makes them tough to guard.”
