Missed opportunities leaves Buccs out of eight

The Buccaneers couldn’t redeem Saturday’s 15-point loss against Lakeside Lightning with a win against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns yesterday as missed opportunities saw them walk away with an 18-point loss.

Despite a close match-up in yesterday’s match, a last-quarter haul by the Suns put the game beyond the Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers’ reach.

It was a tight first quarter with scores level for the majority of the term.

Buccs’ import Morgan Sabia made his presence felt in defence and team-mate Aaron Ralph was no stranger to the scoreboard.

Youngster Jack Stone netted a three pointer to give the Buccs a three-point lead at the first break. Michael Lay opened the quarter for the Buccs, but the Suns were hot on their heels.

Greg Palmer netted 30 points for his side, and the Buccs trailed by a point at half-time.

Buccs missed crucial opportunities and subsequently the Suns capitalised.

Ralph and Daniel Thomas were standouts, piling on a combined 51 points.

With just six minutes left in the quarter the margin was the same, and again the Suns held a one point lead heading into the final quarter.

Ralph continued to score where his side needed it most.

Accurate shooting from the Suns saw them surge ahead of the Buccs, and with one minute left in the game they held a 12-point lead.

Buccs couldn’t work their way back into the match, with the final score 106-88.

Lightning were too strong for the Buccs in Saturday’s match.

Despite taking an early lead, the Buccs trailed by three points at the first break. Lightning continued to extend their lead, and the Buccs were inaccurate in their scoring, losing 84-69.
