Lightning strike twice to strengthen lead (Round 6 men's wrap)

In another incredible round of the men's State Basketball League the Lakeside Lightning extended their six game winning streak to eight after taking down the Cockburn Cougars on Friday night and the Goldfields Giants on Saturday.

The Lightning defeated the Cougars 92-82 thanks to star import Luke Payne who had 30 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Lakeside then went on to smash the Giants by 35 points at home with the final score standing at 114-79.

The Lightning dominated the start and finish with a 33 point first quarter and a 34 point final quarter with import Ben Beran (26 points and 15 rebounds) leading the way.

The Mandurah Magic had a stellar weekend taking down the Wanneroo Wolves on Friday night and the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Saturday, advancing them to third place on the leader board over taking last years season champions Wanneroo.

The Magic snuck over the line with six unanswered points in the final quarter to defeat the Wolves 104-100, Mandurah's Thomas Remmerswaal was the star with 31 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Despite the Wolves leading nearly the entire game, their poor accuracy from behind the three point arc came back to haunt them down the stretch, shooting just 10% from the land of plenty.

Mandurah went on to defeated the Eastern Suns 104-85 with dominant offensive pressure from imports Taylor Land (24 points) and Taylor Mullenax (24 point, 13 rebounds and two assists).

The Perth Redbacks defeated the Stirling Senators 104-84 behind 27 points five rebounds and three assists from Jarrad Prior and 22 points and nine rebounds from centre Michael Vigor, import Michael Jones led Stirling with 25 points and16 rebounds.

After a neck and neck game between the Perry Lakes Hawks and the Geraldton Buccaneers, the Hawks pulled through to win 106-104, Hawks import Shane Ross staring with 40 points and 22 rebounds.

The Rockingham Flames ended their seven game losing streak to take down the South West Slammers 113-89.

The Willetton Tigers defeated the East Perth Eagle 85-74 on Saturday and the Eagles went on to defeat the Giants 93-90 on Sunday.

Eagles player Tom Jervis a stand out with 32 points, 15 rebounds and four assists.
