Southern rivalry to test Lightning (Round 6 men's previe

The undefeated Lakeside Lightning will face another big test this weekend when they face cross-town rivals Cockburn Cougars on Friday night.

Cockburn have won four games in a row and with the recent addition of import Jeremiah Wilson could prove to be a big test for the Lightning.

Lakeside will also be sweating on the availability of Ben Beran who could be the key against Cockburn. The star import only managed seven minutes last week with an injury.

In another big Friday night clash Wanneroo Wolves will take on the Mandurah Magic at Joondalup Basketball stadium.

Both teams have won the last two games but the Magic have everything to prove against the defending champions as they fight for their first finals appearance since 1999.

The Wolves import Jordan Wild has had a strong start to the season averaging 24.7 points and nearly 13 rebounds a game, his battle with Magic big man Taylor Mullenax will be crucial for this contest.

The Magic will also be hoping to get over the line at home on Saturday night against the struggling Kalamunda Eastern Suns who have only managed one win so far this campaign.

The Goldfields Giants hit the road to Perth for the first time since round one and face the Lightning on Saturday night and East Perth Eagles on Sunday in a crucial weekend for them after a mixed start to the season.

Perry Lakes Hawks will travel to Geraldton to take on the Buccaneers in a game that could see the Hawks drop out of the top eight.

After last week’s loss the Perth Redbacks take on the Stirling Senators at Warwick with the Senators looking to push into the top eight.

Willetton Tigers will be hoping to put their fourth single figure loss behind them when they take on the East Perth Eagles at home on Saturday night.

In a bottom of the ladder clash the Rockingham Flames take on the South West Slammers who last week had their second week of the season.

Both teams will be eager with Rockingham on a seven game losing streak while their southern rivals the Slammers have now won more games than the past two seasons combined.
