Big Bad Wolves thrash Flames (Friday Night Wrap)

Wanneroo Wolves continued their impressive start to their men's State Basketball League title defence by thrashing the struggling Rockingham Flames 119-83.

The Wolves were in control of the contest blew out but the scoreline became embarrassing for Rockingham after a 40-16 final quarter in Wanneroo's favour.

New recruit Jackson Hussey (27 points, seven assists and six steals) was the standout for the Wolves, who have overcome captain Greg Hire's early absence due to his Wildcats commitments to win their first three games.

Percell Coles had 21 points for the Flames, who've now lost their first three matches of the new campaign.

Wildcats development player Ben Purser led 2011 runner-up Perry Lakes Hawks to a 98-67 mauling of East Perth Eagles.

Purser had 15 points, 14 rebounds and six assists to lead Perry Lakes to its second win from two games this season and hand the Eagles their second consecutive loss.

Last year's top seed entering the playoffs Lakeside Lightning were similarly convincing in their 117-86 annihilation of Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

Lakeside jumped out to a 28-point advantage after the first half and was never challenged from there as Luke Payne's 32 points earned the Lightning their third consecutive win.

In women's action, 2011 Grand Finalist East Perth continued its poor start to the campaign in the absence of West Coast Waves star Samantha Norwood with a 65-39 loss to Perry Lakes.

The Eagles didn't score more than 12 points in any of the quarters and made just 24 per cent of their field goal attempts to hand the Hawks their second straight win.

The Lightning continued their surprisingly strong start to the season by downing Kalamunda 75-64 on the back of Courtney Byrnes' 21 points.

And Wanneroo thrashed Rockingham 78-51 thanks to Nikita Martin's 17 points and eight rebounds.
