Tom Jervis Blog #2

Over the last two weeks we have had the chance to play in a few scrimmages which has been great for us. Unfortunately though we have come up with a few injuries, with Andre (Dre) Dvaz, John (JT) Taylor, and myself all going down with ankle injuries. Dre was the worst with a Fracture in his foot. But we have learnt a lot about what we need to improve on, off and on the court.

Coach Forde and Berryman began making the adjustments straight away with some back to school basics. What I mean by this is picking up a pen and paper and writing out lines to bring to the next practice. This is the first time I have had to write lines out since 1999 and for our most senior player I’m sure it was more like 1980’s. Sorry for the terrible joke there Rook. But Coach Forde was making sure we stayed on track to achieve our goals we set for this season because we had begun to steer away from what we were looking to do as a team.

Also we have had a couple of extra running sessions. Which for JT and me was not so bad because we could not run due to our injuries, down side to this is we now have to make it up when we are healthy which should be fun.

These sessions were great. One was at Lake Monger and the other at City Beach. Before the running session at Lake Monger Cameron Cranley was attempting to catch the wild life with a swan and duck chase and a turtle hunt. He failed at all three but was great to watch.

After the City Beach run and a brilliant breakfast put on by the great Vaughan Doyle and Ray Edge a soccer game took place. Not your ordinary Soccer game due to the fact Forde said full contact pretty much anything goes accept no handballs. Cranley put one of the best tackles never to be caught on camera, with Justin Lako being the recipient. The best way to describe this was Lako tried to get by Cranley with a quick jump only to have Cranley grab Lako’s feet and face plant him. Nothing but quality and made for a good laugh for everyone watching.

Next up for the Eagle’s is a hard week on court getting ready for the Pre-Season Blitz. Should be good seeing how some of the other teams are shaping up and also a rough idea where we stand at the moment.

The Blitz is being run from March 2nd to 4th at WABC; make sure you check out sblblitz.sportingpulse.net for our game times.
