Tom Jervis Blogs - "Back to Basics"

Hi East Perth fans this is the first blog for the men’s SBL team of the year, and also my first Blog ever so let’s hope for everyone’s sake these get better!

So far the team has been going very hard on and off the court. We started off the year with a gruelling three day boot camp in Margret River. This is the third year in a row the team has done this and it hasn’t got any easier.

I know a couple of the guys would much rather have stayed in a hotel and done some nice wine tours, me being one of them! Instead we set up camp in a paddock and spent the remainder of our time being put through our paces mentally and physically with less than four hours sleep. I now know everyone who took part in the camp will never want to hear the words Burpie, or grab your Jerri can again.

It was great to see everyone come together and get through the camp, and I wish I could go into more detail but you would not believe me even if I told you.

Since camp we have been on court where Coach Forde and Coach Berryman have been instilling into us their style of basketball, which promises to be fast pace and exciting to watch.

We started back to basics with defence and shooting and the amount we have evolved in such a short time has been unbelievable, with everyone being on the same page and buying into a new style of basketball.

This new style also includes giving back to our juniors where the team was at the WABL tryouts throughout the day last Sunday giving help to the great coaches we have at East Perth. It was great to help out and see some of the talent we have coming up through the junior ranks, and look forward to helping throughout the season.
