Perth's bite stuns Cougars (Saturday Night Wrap)

Perth Redbacks got their men's State Basketball League season back on track as they ended a poor run of form to beat Cockburn Cougars 92-83.

The Redbacks, who made last year's semi-finals, had lost five of their previous six games and could have fallen out of the top eight had they been defeated again.

But Adrian Majstrovich (32 points) helped Perth overturn a deficit in the last three minutes to get the vital win.

Stanley Ocitti had 32 points to lead the Cougars, who remained in second spot despite losing for the second time in four games.

Lakeside Lightning strengthened their grip on top spot with a 105-83 win against Wanneroo Wolves, their second victory against a top four side for the round.

Ben Beran (25 points) helped Lakeside to its fifth straight victory and ended Wanneroo's four-game winning streak.

Goldfields Giants fell out of the top four after losing at home for just the second time this season, an 83-76 result against Willetton Tigers, which saw the defending champions climb up to fifth spot.

Ben Pepper's 25 points saw Geraldton Buccaneers end their five-game losing streak and keep their slim finals hopes alive with an 82-65 triumph against Mandurah Magic, who remain in the bottom four.

Perry Lakes Hawks survived a major scare to end their two-game losing streak with a 90-85 win against Rockingham Flames, whose final hopes are all but over.

Perth Wildcats guard Drew Williamson had 34 points to help East Perth Eagles stay in touch with the top eight with a 123-103 win against fellow finals contenders Kalamunda Eastern Suns, who have now lost three straight.

And Stirling Senators overturned an early deficit to beat Southwest Slammers 99-93, which denied the Bunbury side its first win of the year.

In women's action, Wanneroo continued its resurgence with a 77-70 win against Lakeside.

Elsewhere, East Perth came from behind to beat Kalamunda 77-73, Cockburn continued Perth's struggles with a 69-60 overtime win, the Hawks thrashed Rockingham 86-57 and Stirling defeated the Slammers 87-73.
