East Perth successful in Tiger hunt (Round Eight WSBL Wrap)

Australian Central East Perth Eagles became the first side to beat defending champions Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers this women's State Basketball League season with a 67-65 round eight victory.

The Tigers had won their first 10 games of the season but East Perth took advantage of the absence of West Coast Waves star Melissa Marsh to end its two-game losing streak.

Nicole Jorre St Jorre had 24 points to lead the Eagles to their fifth win of the season, while Jasmine Hooper and Kate Malpass had 23 points for Willetton.

But the Tigers thrashed Rockingham Flames 103-39 the previous night, with Malpass (28 points) again playing a crucial role.

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks maintained the pressure on Willetton with wins against Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves and Lakeside Lightning.

Second placed Perry Lakes survived a strong finish from the third placed Wolves to win 59-56, led by Rosie Tobin (18 points).

And the Hawks made it seven straight victories with a 68-53 win over the Lightning, who had won three consecutive games before that defeat.

Perth Redbacks consolidated their top eight spot with an upset 74-68 win over Wanneroo.

The Redbacks had lost two straight but Brooke Hiddlestone (25 points and 18 rebounds) and Marita Payne (21 points) helped break that streak and hand the Wolves their third loss from four outings.

Metropolis Fremantle Cockburn Cougars maintained their solid form with comfortable wins over Southwest Slammers and Rockingham.

The Cougars handed Southwest its eighth consecutive loss with a 66-51 result, led by Emma Pass (16 points).

And Courtney and Kara Hargreaves (31 and 27 points respectively) helped Cockburn to a 105-33 annihilation of the Flames, who have lost all nine games despite finishing second last year.

Kalamunda Eastern Suns beat Southwest Slammers 76-67 to extend their winning streak to two games.

Sarah-Jane Knox had 19 points from just 21 minutes to help seventh placed Kalamunda to victory, while Lavesa Glover scored 20 points for Southwest.

Mandurah Magic climbed up to third spot with an 81-60 win over Western Stainless Stirling Senators, who have lost three of their last four games.
