Hawks swoop for two major scalps (Round Eight MSBL Wrap)

A pair of impressive round eight victories saw Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks give their men's State Basketball League title hopes a major boost.

The Hawks overturned a 23-point deficit beat Wanneroo Wolves 107-102 on Friday before becoming just the second team to defeat Lakeside Lightning this season with a 92-85 victory on Saturday.

Import Anthony Lee led his side past the Wolves with 33 points before claiming 28 points and 15 rebounds to help knock Lakeside off the top of the ladder.

Cockburn Cougars replaced the Lightning in first spot after beating Southwest Slammers 82-76 and Rockingham Flames 112-97.

Ty Harrelson's 26 points saw his side past the winless Slammers, while Sheldon McIntyre top-scored for the Cougars with 29 points against Rockingham.

And the Flames also lost 120-112 to Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers, which means they've lost six straight since winning four of their first five games of the season.

Willetton has won its last three games after also beating Australian Central East Perth Eagles 86-81.

Robert Kampman had 33 points to help Willetton overcome the absence of Wildcats centre Matt Knight and improve its record to 7-5, while the Eagles lost their third straight despite Daniel Thomas's 18 points.

SKILLED Goldfields Giants extended their winning streak to four games with an 82-79 win over fierce rivals Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers.

The Giants jumped out to a 14-point quarter-time lead and held on thanks to Matthew Rosinski's 27 points.

The Buccaneers reached last year's semi-finals but sit in 11th spot with a disappointing 4-7 record this year after also losing 109-97 to ATD Stirling Senators.

Kalamunda Eastern Suns climbed into the top eight with a 134-99 thrashing of Southwest, with Corey Craig (30 points) leading his side to its third straight victory.

Wanneroo overcame the absence of Wildcats youngster Greg Hire to beat Perth Redbacks 118-111.

Victory saw the Wolves remain in third spot, while the Redbacks have slipped to seventh with four consecutive losses.

Mandurah Magic have won three of their last four games after winning 114-101 against Stirling, which left the Senators outside the eight on percentage.
