Country rivals face crucial clash (Round Eight MSBL Preview)

Heated rivals SKILLED Goldfields Giants and Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers face a vital clash in round eight action of the men's State Basketball League.

The two regional sides meet in Kalgoorlie on Saturday, with the Giants looking to consolidate their top four spot with their fourth straight win, while the Buccaneers will be hoping to climb into top eight and improve to a 5-5 record.

Geraldton guard Michael Lay has averaged 21.7 points per game and will have to play a big role to lead side to victory, while Matthew Rosinski, who has averaged 24.7 points per game for the season, will be the key player for the Giants.

The Midwest side also faces a difficult clash in Perth on Friday against ATD Stirling Senators, who will also be looking to climb into the top eight with a win.

Stirling also meets Mandurah Magic, who need to get on a good run of form to resurrect their finals hopes. Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks have won four of their last five but face a nightmare doubleheader with games against Lakeside Lightning and Wanneroo Wolves.

The Lightning moved into top spot with a pair of wins last weekend but should be tested by the in-form Hawks, while Wanneroo will be looking to consolidate its top four spot.

The Wolves are also up against an out-of-form Perth Redbacks side, which has fallen to seventh spot with losses from four of their past five.

Rockingham Flames have suffered four straight losses and face a tough doubleheader as they try to bounce back against Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers and Cockburn Cougars.

The Cougars lost their grip on top spot with losses in two of their last three, while Willetton has struggled for consistency and sits in sixth spot.

The Tigers also meet Australian Central East Perth Eagles, who have lost two straight and sit in 11th spot.

Southwest Slammers are still without a win this season and face a pair of tough games against Cockburn and Kalamunda Eastern Suns, who got their finals hopes back on track with two upset wins in round seven.
