Brown arrives in Geraldton

NEW import Todd Brown believes the expectation on his shoulders can help him thrive with the Geraldton Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers.

The 6’6” (198cm) American completed his first training session with the Buccs on Saturday.

Brown is a former captain of three years with California’s Fresno Pacific University Sunbirds, averaging more than 13 points per game.

The swingman was recommended to the Geraldton camp by close friend and 2010 SBL MVP Buccs import Ryan Zamroz.

Brown acknowledged he had an impressive baton to carry on from his fellow countryman.

But he was confident the pressure would help spur him to give his all in the blue and gold jersey.

“I feel good about expectations — in the beginning at college I was a role player at first and I came through to be one of the main players,” he said.

“I’ve been working on all parts of my game so I can take away the shot, go to the basket or post up.

“I’m looking forward to the responsibility, there’s a lot on my shoulders but it’s something that is going to make me a lot better player.”

The Buccs have been working through the gears to prepare for the round one away trip to Mandurah and Cockburn on March 19 and 20.

Brown arrived on Australian soil on Friday with wife Tarin and enjoyed his first encounter with his new teammates.

“I’m really excited after meeting all the guys at practice, there is some good talent there,” he said.

“There's a lot of guys who have been around for a while along with a lot of young guys, so we’ve got a good mix.”

He was impressed with rookie guard Luke Wrensted and experienced the brunt of Aaron Ralph’s perimeter shots.

“Ralph can shoot it, I was guarding him and he hit a couple in my face,” he laughed.

After graduating from FPU last May, Brown gained an insight of the SBL talent he will be up against during a graduate development tour of America’s east coast. Lakeside Lightning hotshots Luke Payne and Ben Beran are two of the big names he played with during the Athletes In Action program.
