Purser heads to Augusta State University

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks young gun Ben Purser has this week left for a full basketball scholarship at Augusta State University in Georgia, USA.

Augusta State is a top Division Two college in the Peach Belt Conference in NCAA and has a strong Australian feel.

Current Titan Interactive Wolves guard was a Senior at the College last season where he averaged 5.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in 33 games, averaging 23.6 minutes on court.

The ASU Jaguars also announced in April that Kyle Armour, a Willetton junior, would be joining the team from Missouri State-West Plains College.

The Jaguars assistant coach Robbie McKinlay is from Sydney and has played NBL for the West Sydney Razorbacks. Current Wildcats player and Willetton Tigers star in the SBL, Cameron Tovey, is also a former player at Augusta State.

Purser began his SBL career in 2008 and was a part of the 2009 Hawks Grand Final team. In his short three year career, Purser has played 82 games and averages 12.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

The current UWA student will be transferring his two and a half years of Law/Commerce Studies to ASU where he will complete his studies.

Purser will be living out his childhood dream of playing basketball in the USA when he arrives on Friday morning Perth time.

The Perry Lakes Hawks have announced that Purser will be back in May 2011 to play for the Hawks as they strive for their sixth SBL Championship.
