Lightning tople Redbacks in series opener

Lakeside Lightning will take a one-nil lead and all of the momentum into game-two of their semi-final series against Perth Redbacks winning game-one 114-92.

An impressive looking Lakeside outfit led for the majority of the match with big man Benjamin Beran the star with 30 points and seven rebounds.

Lightning Head Coach Andy Stewart said his side is fully aware the job is far from done.

“It’s a series, not a game. We haven’t achieved anything yet, they could come back and beat us two-nil,” he said.

“We’ll review the game, see where we broke down and make the adjustments.

“I don’t know what they’ll change. I won’t know what to expect until I’ve reviewed the tape.”

Both sides scored 15 points in the final quarter and Stewart said his team were keen to ensure they finished the match strongly and didn’t give Perth any momentum heading into game-two.

“This is a team that had a big fourth-quarter comeback in the last round so we had to finish well.”

Perth will need to make defensive adjustments if they are to stand any chance of turning around this series and advancing to the grand-final for the first time since 1999.

The series will now head to the Lakeside Recreation Centre for games two and three (if required) on Friday 13 August and Saturday 14 August respectively.

In women’s semi-final action, Willetton Tigers missed an opportunity to win with the final play of the game going down to Perth Redbacks 59-60 in game-one of their series.
