Zamroz takes Hunt Trophy

RYAN Zamroz dedicated his Hunt Trophy to his teammates.

Zamroz accepted the award for the season’s best and fairest, at the Geraldton Sun City Plumbing Buccaneers Awards night on Sunday.

He said his award was a testament to the work of his teammates.

“Any individual award is a reflection of your teammates,” Zamroz said.

“I had a good season and I helped out the team in my role as a scorer.

“We work well as a team and play for each other.”

Zamroz believes the chemistry between players helped him adjust to life as a Buccaneer.

“Everybody gets along and it helps to know everyone on the court has your back,” he said.

Zamroz did not rule out returning to Tip Top Stadium for another season if the chance opened up.

“It all depends on how things pan out, but I will be open to the idea if it presents itself,” he said.

His attention is now focused on dismantling Willetton in the best-of-three semi finals series beginning this Saturday.

The American import believes the side is better prepared this time round compared to their 24-point loss to the Tigers in round 17.

“We are better prepared forwhat they bring to the game,” he said.

What Willetton brings is a wealth of NBL experience and the best rebounder in the competition.

Ty Shaw led the SBL in the regular season for rebounds per game while NBL centre Daniel Johnson scored 45-points at Tip Top Stadium last time the sides met.

Zamroz said the battle in the low post will be key to victory.

“He is obviously a talented player and we must key in around him,” he said about Johnson.

“Defence and rebounding are key to any game so everyone needs to crash the boards early.”

The Tigers muscled the Buccs out of their offence during the last match and forced the Buccs to shoot 39 per cent from the floor.

Executing offence will be the key to scoring points according to Zamroz.

“We need to execute plays and not let them take us out of our offence,” he said.

“We can control the game that way.”
