Boomers to play before anticipated TV audience of 1 billion

The Golden Star Boomers will head into their second major training camp this weekend buoyed by the news that the television audience for the upcoming 2010 World Championship for Men is expected to reach a staggering one billion people.

FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Patrick Baumann confirmed recently that the tournament, which will be held in Turkey from 28 August to 12 September, was on track to reach a massive global audience.

“Right now more than 180 countries will broadcast the games and that number will reach 200 before the event,” said Mr. Baumann. “In 2006, our accumulated TV audiences figure was 800 million viewers and we expect to go over one billion this year.”
