Beran & Hayward take out Player of the Week

Lakeside Lightning big man Benjamin Beran and Mandurah Magic playmaker Kelli Hayward have claimed the PowerPlayer of the Week awards for week 17 in the State Basketball League.

Beran and Hayward will receive $50 vouchers for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco as a result of outstanding performances last weekend.

American import Benjamin Beran had a massive weekend, guiding his Lakeside Lightning to a 2-0 weekend and second place on the ladder.

Against the Flames Beran finished with 50 points and 8 rebounds in just 29 minutes of action. Beran was also impressive the following night against the Giants with 26 points and 3 rebounds at 50% shooting.

SKILLED Goldfields Giants guard Ryan Hulme, Australian Central Eagles star Stephen Weigh and Southlands Willetton Tigers centre Daniel Johnson were all standouts during week 17 action.

Hayward claimed the women’s award after leading Mandurah to a crucial 83-81 win over the Australian Central Eagles.

The Magic guard was impressive with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists while also hurting the Eagles from the free throw line with a 100% success rate (7/7).

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks veteran Tegan Walker was also impressive with 24 points and 13 rebounds in her sides 62-50 win over the AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns.
