Redbacks overpower Senators (Friday Night Wrap)

Perth Redbacks replaced Wanneroo Wolves in the men’s State Basketball League top four after beating Stirling Senators 92-88.

Perth moved into fourth spot, ahead of Wanneroo on percentage, while Stirling fell out of the top eight, behind East Perth.

The Redbacks trailed by four early in the last quarter, but import Jon Meriweather had 22 points in his first game for six weeks to lead the Redbacks to a vital win.

Ed Morris Jr had 23 points and 21 rebounds for Stirling, which has hurt its finals hopes with losses in three of its last four games.

Ben Beran’s incredible performance helped Lakeside Lightning to a 133-97 win over Rockingham Flames, which moved it up to second spot.

Beran had 50 points and eight rebounds as Lakeside won its fourth straight and climbed ahead of Geraldton on percentage.

Travis Moore had 20 points for Rockingham in his side’s third straight loss.

Perry Lakes Hawks consolidated its finals spot with a 110-95 over Kalamunda Eastern Suns.

Robert Kempf (31 points, 15 rebounds) and Peter Crawford (26 points, 13 assists) were outstanding for Perry Lakes, which moved two wins clear of ninth place.

Adrian Majstrovich (24 points) was one of few good performers for Kalamunda as its poor season continued.

In women’s action, Rockingham outscored Lakeside 19-1 in the first quarter on the way to a 64-53 win, Perry Lakes stayed in the top four after beating Kalamunda 62-50 and Perth beat Stirling 69-37.
