Redbacks dent Magics finals hopes (Mens Review)

Southlands Mistubishi Perth Redbacks severely hurt Mandurah Magic’s finals hopes with a 102-98 win in the men’s State Basketball League.

Mandurah fell to four wins outside the top eight with its top eight chances increasingly slim after losing two of its last three.

Ryan Neil top-scored for the Redbacks with 34 points while Taylor Mullenax led the Magic with 28.

Rockingham Flames caused the upset of the round with a 112-94 win at SKILLED Goldfields Giants, with Demetrius Hazel scoring 40 points to end his side’s three-game losing streak.

Goldfields’ gap over fifth placed Perth reduced to one loss with its defeat, despite John Vaudreuil finishing with 29 points and 17 rebounds.

Lakeside Lightning ended Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks’ seven-game winning streak with a 104-85 road victory.

Ryan Sofoulis had 25 points and Jarrad Prue 25 rebounds for the Lightning, which stayed equal on losses with the top two, while Peter Crawford’s 31 points and seven assists weren’t enough to get Perry Lakes a win.

Perry Lakes beat Cockburn Cougars 113-94 the night before, with Crawford (29 points) ensuring the Hawks stayed in the top eight at the end of the round and Christian Cavanaugh top-scoring for Cockburn with 26.

Southlands Willetton Tigers improved its home record to 10-1 with a 112-93 over Australian Central East Perth Eagles, led by Daniel Johnson’s 32 points.

Sam Harris top-scored with 25 points for East Perth, which fell out of the eight with its fifth loss in six games.

The Eagles beat Titan Interactive Wanneroo Wolves the previous night, with Steven Weigh leading it with 27 points and six assists before flying out immediately after the game to take part in an Australian Boomers training camp.

Wanneroo took East Perth’s place in the top eight after beating Cockburn 94-76 on Saturday night, led by Sebastian Salinas’ 21 points.

ATD Stirling Senators climbed up to sixth with its third straight win, beating Carpet Court Southwest Slammers 109-78 on the back of another impressive performance from Ed Morris Jr (30 points, 14 rebounds).

Sun City Plumbing Geraldton Buccaneers held onto top spot with a comfortable 106-96 win over AND1 Kalamunda Eastern Suns, the Suns’ ninth consecutive loss.

Ryan Zamroz was Geraldton’s best with 34 points in his side’s third straight win, while Adrian Majstrovich had 45 points for Kalamunda.
