Kempf, Norwood claim SBL Player of the Week

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks centre Robert Kempf and Australian Central East Perth Eagles front court star Samantha Norwood have claimed the State Basketball League PowerPlayer of the Week awards for round 13.

Both will receive $50 vouchers to PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco following their outstanding performances over the Foundation Day long weekend.

Import big man Kempf took the prize after his dominant display in Perry Lakes’ crucial 93-88 win over Perth.

Kempf helped his side consolidate a finals spot with 24 points and 20 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, and three steals from 47 minutes in one of his best games of the season.

Battling against Perth star import Daniel Maddox and Perth Wildcats star Jesse Wagstaff, Kempf took his averages for the season to 17.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game after his impressive effort.

Norwood claimed the women’s award following a great performance in her side’s 78-44 win against Cockburn.

From just 28 minutes on the court, the Perth Lynx youngster had 29 points and six rebounds, making 15 trips to the free-throw line and hitting 50 per cent of her field goal attempts.

Norwood is averaging 13.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game for the Eagles this year and has been in great form recently, averaging over 24 points per game in her last three.
