Hawks, Eagles set for showdown (Womens Preview)

Total Connections Perry Lakes Hawks and Australian Central East Perth Eagles meet in a key match in round 11 of the women’s State Basketball League.

Third placed East Perth and fourth placed Perry Lakes will both be looking to consolidate their top four places while keeping up the pressure on the league leaders.

East Perth has struggled recently with losses in two of its last three, including to Perry Lakes two weeks ago while the Hawks surprisingly struggled in a five point victory over Southwest last week.

The Eagles may also be challenged by in form Lakeside Lightning, which has won three of its last four and moved into the top eight.

The addition of import Heidi McNeill, who averaged 15 points and 13.5 rebounds per game last round, has been a massive boost for Lakeside.

Lakeside host Southlands Willetton Tigers the previous night and should struggle against a team that has won its last 11 and has lost only once this season.

Willetton was without Kate Malpass last week but still beat Southwest comfortably.

Mandurah Magic will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing loss to local rivals Rockingham last week when it plays Glasscraft Wanneroo Wolves.

Both are 6-5 for the season and both are coming off losses last week, with Wanneroo upset by Kalamunda.

The Wolves travel to Southside Mitsubishi Perth Redbacks the previous night, with Perth trying to rebound from an upset loss to Lakeside last week.

Redbacks star Brooke Hiddlestone played just 26 minutes in that game and only had five points and seven rebounds, with Perth needing a bigger impact from her against Wanneroo.

Perry Lakes should prove too good for ATD Stirling Senators, with Stirling having lost eight straight since its only win of the season against Southwest early in the year.

The Senators will be boosted in the coming weeks by the addition of US college player Gabby Clayton, but she isn’t expected to play this week.
