State Basketball League is to return to Waroona for the first time in five years.

The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks is to host its home games of Saturday 12 June at the Waroona Recreation Centre, Hill Street Waroona. They will be playing the Mandurah Magic with the women’s fixture starting at 6PM and the men’s at 8PM.

The games are sponsored by the Local Drug Action Groups Inc, which is a not for profit organisation that provides an opportunity for people in local communities to actively participate in taking action to prevent or reduce alcohol and other drug related harm.

The Redbacks’ men’s team has a star-studded line-up that includes United States import Jon ‘excitement machine’ Meriweather along with Perth Wildcats’ players Jesse Wagstaff, Jarrad Prior and Joel Wagner.

The Redbacks’ women’s team includes current league most valuable player Brooke Hiddlestone, National Basketball League player and former Opals squad member Marita Payne and former National Basketball League player and assistant coach Narelle Henry.

Redbacks’ president Gary Prior stated the club endeavours to take one home game to the country every year as part of its overall regional development program, which also includes extensive indigenous development work and the conducting of country basketball clinics.

Prior thanked Mandurah Magic, along with the Town of Waroona and the staff at the recreation centre for their support in helping make this event happen.

The cost of entry is $10 for adults and $5 for children, students and concession card holders. Tickets will be available at the Waroona Stadium from 28 May.
