Wundenberg to remain positive in 2010

MATT Wundenberg has a list of goals he wants to achieve in his second year as Buccs captain.

The tall centreman admitted he found it hard to keep his emotions in check at times last year.

“One thing I’ve learnt from last year is to be positive,” he said.

“Sometimes I got frustrated last year but I gradually learnt to suck it up.

“I found when I remained positive, that generally helps the team and it helps you play better.”

The Buccs made it to the semis last year, but crashed out against season champions Lakeside.

Wundenberg is hoping a focus on improving their defence will take the side to another level.

He said it was an area the team needed to address in the push for silverware. “We need to work stronger on defence and rebound harder,” he said.

He also called for a team-first approach from all the players.

“I want the team to play the best we can,” he said.

“That means guys have to rotate off the bench.

“The number one goal again this year is to make finals again, we’re not aiming for anything less.”

The Buccs are on the road to South West Slammers tomorrow and Mandurah Magic on Sunday.

Wundenberg believes two wins would be the ideal lead-in to next week’s first home game against Wanneroo Wolves.

“We’re expecting to get two wins,” he said.

“We don’t want to be behind the eight ball from the start.”
