Marc Jones a Tigers in 2010

The Willetton Tigers are pleased to announce the signing of 6’7 Forward Marc Jones for the upcoming 2010 SBL Season.

A kiwi by nationality, Marc played the last two seasons with the Cockburn Cougars and after a brief dabble with Aussie Rules Football earlier this year has decided to play basketball again. He averaged 18ppg and 8rpg in the 2009 SBL season and will be a valuable addition to the team in 2010.

Marc was part of the highly successful Nelson Giants in the New Zealand NBL from 2000-2007. He moved over for work and a lifestyle change in early 2008.

Coach Hampel was excited by Marc’s inclusion in the 2010 team.

“Marc is the consummate professional. He has a high basketball IQ and is a fitness nut. Not only is he bringing a wealth of playing experience but his work ethic and knowledge is a great example to the younger players coming through. Already he is taking the young forwards under his wing and is giving them some tips on how to ply their trade.

With Ty Shaw and Daniel Johnson already locked away, Jones is a great inclusion and will compliment those two and create huge matchup problems (hopefully). It also gives us a solid rotation with the other young forwards coming through the ranks.

Marc’s recruitment (along with Ty Shaw and Daniel Johnson) has been made with a view to the future and we have chosen players not only who can play on the court, more importantly fit the mould of the other things we are trying to put in place and engrain in the juniors.

The SBL season kicks off in March and is preceded by the Pre-season tournament in late February. The squad has been training hard with the final makeup of the squad to be confirmed in late January.
