Mens Grand Final Recap

In A Grade The Hammerheads made it an undefeated season on Monday night by defeating Keep Dreaming 43-29 thanks in large to a strong 1st quarter. The Hammerheads took a 13-2 lead into the first break and didn't look back. Led by Lee Rogan and Brett Slade (11 points each), the Hammerheads were able to finish the game with only one player fouled out, though another three had 4 fouls. Matthew Carmichael was the reason for so many fouls being committed by the Hammerheads, as he top scored in the match with 14, six of which came from the free throw line. It just wasn't to be for Keep Dreaming as they were playing together as a team for the last time before sending Trent Bignall off on a new adventure up north.

The B Grade Final was a far closer affair with the teams being separated by just 3 points with seconds remaining before Matthew Elworthy was able to put the game beyond reach with two clutch free throws. After being down at both quarter and half time, the Pelicans were able to grab the lead in the third quarter behind some amped up defense. Bullets big man Timothy Back struggled to get going late in the game and finished with 10 points, while Brent Potter was able to disect the zone defense shown by the Pelicans for 17 tough points. Hayden Reed led the Pelicans with 33 points (3 threes) while brothers Matthew and Ryan Elworthy each had 6. The Pelicans were able to close out the game and the B Grade Championship winning 48-43.

Thank you to all the fans that were in attendance. We trust you had a great night and hope to see you apart of the club again next year. We would also like to thank Matt McGlynn and Sam Morrison on a great job refereeing both matches - we know your job is tough and you'll never please everyone.
