As some of you might know, FIBA is rolling out 3x3 basketball across the world, and this Oceania event is a pivotal part of that strategy.  FIBA have introduced 3x3 World Championships for senior and junior men and women, and a men’s World Tour is planned for 2013.  3x3 is played in the Youth Olympic Games, and it is hoped that 3x3 will be played in the Olympics in 2016.

Behind the rollout of this program is an exciting digital platform that includes an international player ranking, accessible from a mobile phone.  The player ranking system will be utilised at the Championships, allowing NSW players to be amongst the first in the world to access this amazing technology.

All details of the Championship are included on the attachment, but briefly:

  • Each team will consist of just 4 players and 1 coach.
  • Teams will receive 11 games over the 3 day Championship.
  • NSW teams will be able to live in the “Athlete Village”, allowing them the unique opportunity to live and eat with players from across the Pacific region.
  • Teams will be accepted on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
  • Nominations close Monday 7th May 2012.
