Congratulations to the u12 2 girls on winning the B grade grand final in the Ballarat Tournament. They played an outstanding tournament which started with the team playing a good brand of basketball beating the Phoenix by 29 points and Altona by 9. The following day they succumbed to Frankston by 7 points, which set up a semi final against Altona. The girls played a strong defensive game beating Altona 32 to 15 to advance to the grand final to a rematch with Frankston. The girls were nervous at the start of the game but jumped out of the blocks scoring the first 4 points with strong defensive pressure and great transition basketball. The girls led at half time but were in foul trouble. Within the first 5 minutes of the second half, the leading scorer Sarah Mazzucco (in the final and all tournament) and dynamic guard Paige Betros were fouled out of the game, leaving the team with no bench. Natasha Madic defensive effort was second to none, stopping everything coming her way all tournament and went another level in the grand final blocking a multitude of shots and getting boards. Olivia Stanko-Free's boards and laser like passes where akin to a seasoned veteran. Yagmur Ozerim's tenacity getting heaps of steals, and the defensive play of guards Carlie Carriera and Sade Stowers were delightful to watch. The final score 26 to 19 ended up being a 14 point turn around from their previous encounter and only emphasized the determination and endeavor of this up and coming stars.
