The Brisbane Hudor Men’s Capitals are in a tight finish for top spot in the Central Pool with Clippers and Logan standing in their way. The Clippers proved anything but easy beats in their round 8 contest v Brisbane and pushed the Caps right to the final minute. This Saturday’s game will again prove an exciting match up with the Clippers eager to spoil Brisbane’s run to the playoffs in 2016.

Round 12 of the QBL last weekend saw the Caps secure both Home (v USC RIP) and Away (v GOLD COAST) wins, maintaining their position amongst the top teams in the QBL this season. The Caps secured their 10th win of the season v the RIP in a hotly fought out contest in front of a 350 strong home crowd. Although close at half-time (37 – 33), the Caps pushed the lead out to 13 at three-quarter time, before the RIP charged back at the Caps in the fourth. Brisbane were able to force the RIP into 25 turnovers, while securing 17 steals themselves, and the victory 85 – 80. Brisbane then journeyed down to the Gold Coast to take on 9th placed Rollers. A powerful third-quarter from the Caps (28-14) extended their 12pt half-time lead and set Brisbane up for their 11th win of the season. “Dog Squad” members, Drew Phillips (19pts of 5-11 3PT shooting) and Jake Davis (16pts off 3-5 3PT shooting) were instrumental in the 98 – 74 road trip victory. Brisbane again forced their opposition to excessive turnovers (24) while showing mature ball security with the ball themselves (4). Brisbane’s’ pressure defence also led to 13 steals for the game while only giving up 2 to the Rollers.

ROUND 13 v #8 PHOENIX CLIPPERS (6 – 7; 3 – 5 on the road)

FG%: 45.4 | 3PT%: 38.2 | FT%: 74.8 | PPG: 94.6

The Clippers proved a formidable hurdle for the caps in Round 8 of the QBL, with the game being decided in the last minutes. Brisbane were out rebounded in that contest 40 – 52 and will need to defend the Clippers perimeter threats of Zane (55.3%) & Zeke Meehl (36.2%), Joshua Walters (41.4%) and Jordan Page (33.7%) while also keeping Nelson Kahler (6.9), Lester Ferguson (7.5) and Eric McAlister (10.1) off the boards.

In that round 8 game, team captain, Ryan Jeffries led the way for the caps with a season high 30pts (12-18 from the field and 6-10 from behind the arc) along with 6rbs and 3asts. Aaron Anderson (24pts, 8rbs, 4asts, 5stls) and Dusty Rychart (17pts, 9rbs) were strong in support with Anthony Kopcikas (11pts) providing much needed punch from the bench.

Series Record: Caps lead 7 – 2 (3 – 1 at home) since 2012.

Last Meeting: The Caps won 93 – 87 in Round 8 on the road at Maroochydore Basketball Stadium.

Notables: The Clippers are 3 – 5 on the road. In Round 8, the Clippers were able to keep the game close through exceptional rebounding with both Nelson Kahler (15pts and 13rbs) and Lester Ferguson (22pt and 18rebs) recording Double-Doubles. Six Clippers players average double figure scoring with Eric McAlister averaging a double-double (14.9ppg and 10.1rpg). The Clippers are accurate as a team from the charity-stripe shooting at 74.8% with four players shooting above 80%.

HOME SWEET HOME at the DOME:

Since round 1 of the 2015 season, the Hudor Brisbane Men’s Capitals hold a regular and postseason home court record of 14 – 3 and look to extend on this home court record v the Clippers this Saturday night. The Caps 11 game home court win streak, held since Round 3 2015, was snapped by South West Metro in Round 5 this season.

SBL Men: The Brisbane Capitals SBL Men’s team (3rd, 9 – 3, 2 – 3 at home) are at home this weekend as they host the Toowoomba Mountaineers (13th, 3 – 8, 0 -6 on the road) this Saturday.

The SBL Capitals average 93.3ppg and hold a 19.2ppg defensive margin on their opponents. With just two home games leading into the play-offs, the SBL Caps are looking to re-establish their form at home in preparation for this seasons semi-finals.

Getting to know your SBL Capitals: Under the careful planning and guidance of Head Coach, Sean Connelly, the Men’s SBL team are again pressing on to the Play-Offs in 2016. QBL team members, Chris Lamb (SBL - 23.3ppg) and Seb Windsor (SBL - 20.5ppg) currently lead the SBL Capitals on offence, combining for an average of six made three-point shots per game. The SBL team also receives strong support from fellow QBL squad member, Andrew “Ollie” Olechnowicz (15.5ppg) who’s savvy interior play and presence on both ends of the floor set the tone for the Caps. Importantly for the Brisbane Capitals continued efforts to support player pathways from juniors through to seniors, 2016 sees five Under 18 Capitals Representative players on the SBL roster; Jackson Greene, Jarrod Rasmussen, Lachlan Venus, Stefano Di Iorio and Will Jang have combined for 33 games in the SBL.

SBL Men's Game is scheduled to tipoff at 4.00pm at NAB Stadium. See you there early.
