Congratulations to our Brisbane referee Harrison Fielder who was awarded the Golden Whistle at the Under 16 Girls 2015 State Championships in Mackay.

 

The Golden Whistle is awarded to a referee for co-operation, teamwork, endeavour and improvement.  

 

 “I felt very happy about the award,” Harrison said.

 

“I knew that I didn't have a strong start at that State Championship, and I had been working hard all week to try and rectify that. That's why getting the most improved award at the end of the week really meant a lot to me.”

 

Harrison was also awarded the U14 Boys Division 2 gold medal game. Referees at State Championships receive education and evaluation throughout the tournament and are graded accordingly.  To be awarded a medal game at State Championships is an exceptional achievement.

 

“Coming back from Mackay and being able to step up and referee a finals game for U14 boys was a very exciting experience.”

 

Having refereed basketball for 4 years, including junior fixtures, BQJBC and 3 State Championships, Harrison said his biggest accomplishment in refereeing is getting the Division 3 gold medal game in his first state championships, the Under 14 Girls, last year.  

 

“Always put in 100% on the court, and use constructive criticism to improve.” Harrison offers his advice to other young referees.
