Pink Crosses the River having seen the Light

The Brisbane Capitals QBL Women in a major coup have secured the services of former SEABL player Morgan Pink for the 2013 season.

Pink who stands at 6’3” will add much needed height to a Caps program that last year had an impressive front court led by former World Champion winning Australian Opal Emma McDonald (nee Randall) and University of Portland star Rachel Warren.

In what will be her first season in the QBL the former Southern Districts Spartans player said that the major attraction to the Brisbane Capitals, a club rich in history and tradition, was that “it is a chance to rediscover my passion and enjoyment for the game”.

Pink has played on several national winning teams as Victorian Junior will bring a wealth of experience to the Caps front court that will be made up of some very good young local talent. Pink, is always up for a challenge and comes from a basketball family is excited by the opportunity to create a home at Brisbane.

“For this season being my first season in the QBL competition I hope to bring leadership to some of the younger players and a solid understanding of the game to our team. I'm really looking forward to having the opportunity to be a part of the Caps family lead by Kristen and her coaching team.”

Pink has already made herself right at home at where basketball began in Queensland, with many of friends involved in the Caps program already and having started her pre-season training.

There will be a lot of importance placed on the front court this season to be able to neutralise opposing team’s forwards and centres. As many of the northern teams in the QBL have bolstered their line ups with even more WNBL talent, something Pink understands and feels she is ready for.

“I see it as a really exciting opportunity, I'm definitely not scared or worried about playing against teams with such dominant ‘bigs’ as I can hold my own and I know that my team will have my back. Basketball in my eyes is a team game so although it may be more 'guard focused' this year, I believe we will be strong across the board. I grew up being a member of Victoria metro squads and trained against top quality ‘bigs’ for years so I'm certainly ready. “

When asked about what Caps fans can expect from the talented forward in 2013, she said “I will be a very encouraging and tenacious member of this year’s team. I’m certainly keen for the season to start and privileged to be coached by Kristen. I’ll do all I can to get the job done in the 4/5 spot along with the other bigs and the rest of the Caps family.”

One thing is for sure Brisbane are very much making her feel right at home and part of the family, and for a club so well established in basketball folk law, the Caps are glad they have Morgan Pink on their roster and as member of the Brisbane Capitals Program.
