All,

 

Due to the extreme and dangerous weather conditions including bushfires on travel routes, oppressive heat conditions, smoke pollution and no air-conditioning at Mackay Basketball Stadium, the U18 North State Performance Program Camp, scheduled to be held this weekend December 1 & 2 in Mackay has been CANCELLED.

 

This announcement will hopefully prevent athletes, coaches and parents from embarking on difficult and potentially dangerous travel from the Far North and the Wide Bay areas.

 

We have been advised that the conditions in Mackay Basketball Stadium are not conducive to training for long periods and could be considered not in the best interests of adolescent athletes, particularly those training in an enduring SPP high performance camp environment. Based on this information we have decided to cancel the camp.

 

We have made this decision in the best interest of the majority and hope the early announcement aids our BQ member’s families and prevents any possible danger through proceeding with physical training in such conditions.

 

The U18 North SPP Camp scheduled for 2-3 February 2019 in Townsville will proceed as planned.

 

Basketball Queensland is endeavouring to contact all affected coaches, athletes and families, but we would appreciate your assistance in helping to get the word out to relevant members of your associations.
