VALE FATHER KETTLE

Mackay Basketball was saddened to hear of the passing of Father Paul Kettle who is being laid to rest in Bundaberg today, Wednesday, 23 August

Father Kettle was one of a few catholic priests who helped to establish basketball in Mackay during the 1950's. Basketball was originally played at the convent schools at St Marys, St Josephs and St Francis and was aided by the help of catholic priests at the time in Father Hayes, Father Durham, Father Leahy and Father Kettle.

Father Kettle played for the All Stars club and was successful in winning the premiership in 1958, playing alongside, John Roche, Brian Phillips, Jim Bartolo, Aldo Romagnolo, Gerome Taylor and Bob Amadee.

Father Kettle's contribution to the humble beginnings of basketball in Mackay are very much appreciated and a strong part of the Mackay Basketball history. Rest in Peace.
