VALE JOCK FILIA
The Mackay Basketball community is saddened with the news of the passing of Jock Filia. He is responsible for helping with the development of junior and senior basketballers for as long as I can remember.
He used to mentor anyone who wished to head down to Candlestick Park on a Sunday morning in all aspects of the game and in particular shooting technique.
He played in Mens A Grade (Division 1) representing several clubs over the journey, including Panthers, Pumas and Triggers. He had a keen basketball mind and loved to spend time talking about the Meteors and Meteorettes teams. I know that several coaches had him attend practice sessions to work with the players on their shooting.
He had a quiet wit and was always a pleasure to be around. His love of the game will forever be remembered. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten! RIP "SHOT DOCTOR"
